Kentucky was once two counties of Virginia. They were known as Ohio and Jefferson. It is said that Fordsville was previously in Ohio County Virginia.
In the early days of Fordsville the town prospered from oil, coal and some of the most desirable crops of fine tobacco - both chewing and smoking.
At 10:00 a.m. on October 1, 1889 the first railroad trip into Fordsville started from the Louisville, St. Louis and Texas Depot.
The earliest known settlers (Remus G. and Patsy H. Mobberley) came from Virginia in 1790 seeking a new home west of the Allegheny Mountains.
The City of Fordsville has suffered three major fires. The first and most destructive was in 1916, another in 1935 and the third was in 1961.
On October 8, 1889 Fordsville's regular passenger and freight service began. Round trip tickets ranged between 5o and 85 cents.
